Review: Bunheads by Sophie Flack

Bunheads by Sophie Flack
Pages: 294
Publisher: Atom
Published: March 1st 2012

Summary:

How do you chose between your first love and your first solo?

As a dancer with the Manhattan Ballet Company, nineteen-year- old Hannah Ward is living her childhood dream. And while she might not be a prima ballet yet, she's moving up the ranks and surely if she works hard enough she can make it happen.
But devoting her whole life to ballet leaves very little time for everything else: friends, family, school have all fallen by the wayside. Hannah doesn't mind until a chance encounter brings Jacob into her life . . .

Review:

How to describe and make this book sound like i want it to i don't know. I have been trying to have great ways to review this book every minute. Even when i was half way of this book i was thinking how i could do the review for this book, but here it goes.

Firstly, i would like to say this is a first for me to read a performing art kind of book. I have never read a book like this.

Bunheads is a hooking book. Every time, i read it i keep on reading more and more and then more. I just can't get enough it. Sophie's writing is beautiful, but simple. When you read this you don't want to leave the book, but, neither do you want to finish it.  How Sophie describes ballet is like you are a ballet person. She shows the backstage world of being a ballet-not on stage with pretty tutus, make up and delicate dancing, which looks effortless. Sophie shows how being a ballet is not all about being in a tutu and looking beautiful. It mean a lot of hard work and sweat. No eating much calories and always on a diet-which i would die of! No time for yourself or anyone else you love.

One of the things that really surprised me in the ballet world was that your breasts have to be small or it's bye bye to you.

Every character in this story is like a person that actually exists outside of this book and living with you right now. Hannah has few friends in the Manhattan Ballet Company, which are: Zoe, Bea, Daisy and Leni and a few more. Zoe is a girl who jumps from one boy to another in minutes, but she takes her ballet career seriously. Bea is kind and is helpful and Daisy is sixteen-younger than any of the girls in the Manhattan Ballet Company. They all sound real to me.

Meeting Jacob was quick, just into a few chapters you meet him and he sounds like a genuine nice guy. Jacob and Hannah are a great couple. The only drawback is that Hannah is a ballet and doesn't have time for anything else. However, Hannah also has another boy in her life; Matt. He's gorgeous, kind and has all the money you can wish for.

The plot of this book is a ordinary life of a ballet person. I love how structured the plot of the romance and Hannah's career into the plot. Not much about romance, but a lot about ballet and that's how it is supposed to be, Hannah's ballet life over shadowing her first love. The book finishes with a great decision of Hanna's for the rest of her life.

To summarise, people you need to smash your piggy bank and get this book immediately!

Review: Exile (Mercy #2) by Rebecca Lim

Exile (Mercy #2)
By Rebecca Lim
Pages: 292
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Published: May 1st 2011

Summary:

An angel in exile, Mercy is doomed to return repeatedly to Earth, taking on a new human form each time she does. Now she "wakes" as unhappy teen Lela, a girl caring for a dying mother but never herself.

As her shattered memory begins to return, Mercy remembers Ryan, the boy she fell in love in another life, and Luc, the angel haunting her dreams.

Will Mercy risk Lela's life t be reunited with her hearts desire?

Review:

I didn't know how much I missed Mercy until I started to read Exile. I got hooked on by the first sentence in this book. Rebecca's writing is so...beautiful? Precious? Extravaganza? Maybe, all of them! When I finished Reading Exile I was left in shock. Literally! I was just staring at the book as if I had just read that wrong.

Mercy can't remember her old life as Carmen Zappacosta and that means she can't remember Ryan! Nooo! The relationship between Mercy and Ryan are pretty close. However, in this book there isn't much about Mercy and Ryan together. Another relationship in the book is Mercy and Luc's and to be exact I hate Luc. I knew that he was the bad guy from the start.

Every character that Rebecca portrays is like meeting the person yourselves. It's like you're the one who's meeting them, not Mercy.

So, finally, Mercy finds some one that is like her-on Earth. The person she meets asks Mercy why she was send down to Earth and her task is and this keeps me reading on. And then the lady asks what rank are you? Curiouser and curiouser. Don't you think so? Finally, we are getting some inside stuff of who Mercy is and her lost life!

You have got to read the Mercy series! It's one of my favourite series! I'm sure you'll love it too!

Review:

I'm reading this book for three reasons. One, I really like Matched. Two, I wanted to see Ky's piont of view and third, I wanted to see why people didn't like this book.

Before the book starts there's a note from Allie saying that most of this is in Ky's veiw and I got excited by how she was going to do it and the on the first chapter was Ky's perspective of veiw it was strange but I still thought Cassia's point of view is better.

The only thing that kept me reading this book was 1) I wanted to know what happens in this book and 2) I needed to know what happens to read the third book.

When I read Crossed it sounds as if I'm reading poetry and if you don't know I don't really like reading poetry; it's complicated and confusing. I like to read fiction! Crossed does have some parts of Matched. How Classia and Ky describe the Society, for example. Which I did like because I wanted to know wha the Society was going to do about Cassia and Ky.

I kept on skipping paragraphs and let me tell you I didn't do it it in excitement, I did it in boredom and I wanted to get to the good bits.

However, after reading the first few chapters I got used to Ally's style of writing and it also started to make sense, although, I still skipped paragraphs to finish this book-not in excitement. Xandra, Cassia's match, is still after her. Which confused me because I thought Classic was all for Ky and Ky for Classia. This girl, Indie, is frustrating I tell you! she hits on Ky and then she likes Xander and i'm like Hello? Weren't you Just hitting on Ky?!

Things I liked In this book was the blue tablets. Someone told Ky that the blue tablets make you weak and then you die and I was like 'oh my god! Does Cassia know?!'. Then, on the next chapter which was Cassia's pov, she went to a museum and asked for information. You know throne where you say I want information and then they give you what they want-which, by the way, I want to do someday. But for some reason she gives away Ky's precious artifact and I was like 'Nooo! What are you doing girl?! Why didn't you give that stupid blue tablet that that stupid Xandra gave you!' However, I liked it that way, because at least we have some drama in this book.

My opinion:

This time i wouldn't mind if any of these covers came into my hands. However, i do prefer the UK version.

2. Why i prefer the UK version:

  • I love it's layout and the design.
  • I love the crow!

    Review:

The first thing i need to quote-from my friend-is 'son of a beeping beep beep'! This book is awesome!

Now that i have calmed down i would like to show you a text from the book:

Can you see it? That's right this book is not in English and it does not have speech marks! I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that how could this book be published?! Some people might like it, some might not, but i think it's awesome. It has the depth of the story and true originality.

Blood Red Road  is a story based after post apocalyptic and a dystopia book.  When Saba's brother, Lugh, gets kidnapped by Tontons she has to get him back. Along the way she meets all kinds of people, bad to kind and in the middle, too.

Things i like in this book is the heartstone and Nero. I would love to have a heartstone. A heartstone guides you to your desire, since i heard that from Mercy and Sabatells her that her hearts desire is Lugh i think that her true heart desire is a boy and boy am i right! Nero, is a pet of Saba; he's a crow. He's really smart and acts like a human.

People Saba meets along the way to her journey of saving her brother, Lugh, are all amazing. After just hearing their name, i think that they've been in the story more than a few chapters ago. The most curious character in this story is DeMalo. He works with the villain, but helps Saba in the end of the book. This whole books are split up in towns, city's or places they step on along the way and one the important one is Hopetown. In Hopetown Saba gets kidnapped to cage fight, she wins all of her fights and she gets called Angel of Death.

Omg what better than finding your lover in a cage fight! Saba and Jack meet in a cage fight, well, they're not really fighting each other, but, rather the saw each other in a outdoor session. And do you know what she says to him? You're not my type. And i was like you go girl. Lol. The good point of the relationship between Saba and Jack is that it doesn't over shadow the main plot in this book. Every romance scene is exactly where it's supposed to be. Another good point i like about in this book is all the action. Saba is a not a damsel in distress, she's ass kicking type of girl and boy could i tell you more.

However i also think that Saba is pathetic because she blames her mother's death on her sister, Emmi, who died giving birth to her. I mean come on! Her sister, Emmi, is only nine. How can you give a nine-year-old a heavy burden like that!

To end this review would like to quote my friend, again: " son of a beeping beep beep"

Review: Night School by C. J. Daugherty

    Summary:
When everyone is lying, who do you trust?

    Allie's world is falling apart...

She hates her school. Her brother has run away.
    She's just been arrested. Again.
And now her parents are sending her away.

But instead of hating boarding school, Allie is happy.
She's making friends. And there's Carter, a brooding loner with whom she feels an instant connection.
Cimmeria Academy is no ordinary school. Her classmates-and maybe some of the teachers-are holding a secret.

And soon it beginning to feel like a very dangerous place...

    Review:

Night School is a thrilling story with lots of mystery that everyone will love.

I have to start with the first chapter. The first chapter just hooks you on. When i was reading the first chapter i thought i was Allie. The description by Daugherty was too good.

The name of the book-Night School-just screams "vampire" right into my face. This also reminds me of a manga i read and still reading; Vampire Knight. Yes, i do read mangas. Yes, i do love mangas and animes. In contrast, the title Night School was, completely, different from my track thought. It's not even about vampires! And no, it's not about werewolves, neither. You have to think really carefully for this one. If you get it from the start then you are really clever.

Allie's (Alyson) Parents have forced her to go to a school called Cammeria after getting arrested, again. When she does arrive in Cimmeria she sees that it's not a normal school. There are secrets hidden in the depths of Cimmeria's history.

The most thing i laughed at in this book was when Daugherty first mentions perfect for every class i laughed at it because it reminded me of Harry Potter and their kind of perfects.

This girl, Allie is lucky, i tell you! She's got two boys aiming for her hear. Sylvain or Carter? Sylvain-is kind and cute! Carter-rude and a hottie! But, who are you going to chose? Oh, wait you can't chose 'cause Carter is already taken by me, so, you have no choice. Did that make sense? No? I thought so. Anyway, going back to the point. So who would you chose? Sylvain or Carter?

In addition, to the two hot boys Daugherty just keeps you hanging by a thread. First she hints that Allie is just a ordinary person, next you know that she's someone import and and then you find out that Allie's grandma and parents are part of Cammiera's history.

Finally, i would like to say thanks to Daugherty's husband for daring her to do this, in her acknowledgements-that's right i read acknowledgement, sometimes and it sad, but you get to hear background end to the story. And that's all folks!

Actually, wait! There's more the next book in the Night School series is a real story and she has finally finished it. I wonder what it's going to be called and what the cover is going to be like. I can't wait to read it. In the end Daugherty gives you a -no actually she gives you so many cliffhangers. One, she's going to meet her parents, after so many days. Two, she might get to know who he grandma, Lucinda, is. And last but not least, she gets to join Night School. Wahoo!

    About the author:

Night School is the first book in a series. Already out in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, it will be published later this year in 16 countries. It will be published in the US and Canada in early 2013.

This time i'm all hands up to the US version because i had the UK version and it was kind of creepy!

    2. What i love about the US version is better:
    • The background of the cover is actually the sky in the book and it's what i had imagined in my head. if any of you guys have read it, then you would agree with me
    • You can't carry the UK version around; it's embarrassing and  i would never have the bravery to.

    Review:

I don't know how to describe this book. Every page i turned sended thrill through me. All i did, while, i read the book was scream or squeal in excitement or i was shocked. This book reminded me why i love to read.
When i first read "Worlds kept them apart. Destiny bought them together." I thought it was going to be like every other book that has a description like this, but now i regret thinking of that about this book. The whole book has a originality to it. From the seer to the Realms.

The most surprising thing in this book is that it talks about "first blood" for woman. It starts by Aria saying that she's dieing and been dramatic. To me that was funny and shocking at the same time. In books they have never uttered about a woman's "first blood" or anything within that topic and i was like actually interested-i know that everyone has this thought somewhere in the back of their head, somewhere-because i've always thought how Bella smells like when Edward smells her at that time. Does she smell horrible? Does she smell sweet? Or does she smell sour? Then after Perry tells her how she can give birth to babies and the next thing she says is that babies are not born like this-well, along these lines she says something like this, anyway-and i was well shocked. She says that babies in her world are made and created carefully.

Moreover, everything from Aria's world is fake! From example, her eyeballs are fake. She describes Perry's eyes as weird because it's green and it's like a mirror, which i think is human. Isn't it? From that point i started to question myself and looked into the mirror to see my eye, which, by the way is pretty weird. This is what makes Under The Never Sky original. Veronica has her own imagination trait. From her imagery of the world in Under The Never Sky is crystallized to me. I could describe everything about it.

Now, guess what my new favorite genre is? Yep, that's right. Dystopia! After i had finished reading this book i have realized that i actually love dystopia books! For example, Divergent and now this book, Under The Never Sky i have loved them because of the new things the author writes.I have definitely become a fan of Veronica Rossi!

I can't wait for the next book! (Through The Ever Night.)

When sixteen-year-old Tris makes her choice, she cannot foresee how drastically her life will change. Or that the perfect society which she lives is about to unfold into a dystopian, stunning world of electrifying decisions, stunning consequences, heart breaking betrayals and unexpected romance.

    Review:

Divergent is on a different scale from any book. I have never read a book like this. It has something that some books don't. I don't know what to say about it (in a good way).

Divergent is about a girl called Beatrice (Tris). Beatrice  (Tris) is about to be a adult and adult in her world means choosing her own life, job and everything else. She has to chose from 5 factions: 1) Dauntless; they are brave and fearless 2) Abnegation; they are kind and selfless 3) Erudite; they are intelligent and have great knowledge 4) Candor; they are honest and fair and 5) Amity; they are peaceful and friendly. But Beatrice doesn't end up in any of the group she is a Divergent; they do not belong in one faction but two. Divergent is very rare most people don't talk of it in the society. But thus when the choosing ceremony does come forward she choses Dauntless...

The first few pages gave me memories of other books i have read, especially  Matched by Ally Condie. It sounded like she was being matched but no she had to chose the group she had to go into. The first few pages also gets you confused because there are a lot of things to remember. Like, which factor is which, who the characters are, things like that but you do get the hang of it.

Four and Tris's relationship is sweet because they help each other in a way. Although, it takes a long time for Four to finally admit he likes Tris and then you read that Will is jealous and then the next thing you read is that Will has kissed Christina and then with all that figured out you want to know why Will actually liked Tris.

Every chapter i kept on thinking of a bigger action than the training, because when i first heard of this book and read synopsis i thought it was like a rebel book and when they fight back for their freedom. But it only starts near the end and it starts all of a sudden that i couldn't remark it into my brain; which, by the way, is a big cliffhanger! And i am sure i was flicking through the pages to get to the end!

I'm hoping to read the next book (Insurgent).

To end this review for i would like to say that you should read this book, if you haven't! And that it was a great read. In addition, to that i would love to say that this book is on of a kind! You wouldn't want to miss this for the world!

GR review: Angel Evolution by David Estes

    Angel Evolution (Evolution Trilogy #1)
    by David Estes
    Pages: 206
    Publisher: Smashwords
    Published: October 17th
Source: From  Goodreads group-Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics for a review.

    Summary:

When Taylor meets Gabriel at college, she is in awe of the subtle glow that surrounds him. No one else, not even her best friend, seems to notice. Something about him scares her. Is all as it appears? While Taylor struggles for answers, she finds herself in the middle of a century old war centered on one miraculous revelation: evolution.

    Review:

Angel Evolution starts with Taylor starting her college (university) life. She's with her best friend, Samantha aka Sam. When she sees Gabriel Knight she can always see light around him as if he's an angel. *Cough, cough* Although you could already guess with the book's title. And then Christopher turns up. Oh and did i tell you he's a demon?

Woa, woa, woa! Wait. Did i just read the whole book right? Yes i did! I love David! The plot that he has used for the book is too good to be true. Both the Angels and Demons want Taylor. She can give them energy for the war between them. From the start i thought the Angel was the bad guys and the Demons were the good guys but David shocks you when they form a different alliance; Gabrielle-the angel, Christopher-the demon and Taylor-the energy loader. I thought all of this added the spice to this book and it keeps the reader on the edge to know what will happen next. You never know. Maybe i'll be in the book?! Lol.

Mystery! I love mystery! And that is one of the things that i love about this book; mystery. The first half of the book just doesn't give you answers it gives you hints and clues. This book is filled with mystery and the best thing is it keeps you hanging! When i was reading the book ALOT of questions came into my head. For example, who was Gabrielle? Is he really Gabrielle as in one of the Archangels? Who is Taylor, exactly? Why do the want her? For now i will stop these lists of question.

I also thought that the wings peaked my curiosity. Wings! The way Davis puts a different way of putting wings on angel's NECK i don't get but it is original. However, i still love it if wing was stuck to the back and not on your necks! It sends me chills every time i read it! In addition, angels also have bright auras around their body and for some reason from the start only Taylor can see it. That means she's someone important. Ooooh!

Awwwww! Sam and Christoper's relationship is so cute! On the other hand, Taylor and Gabriel's relationship is.....urmmm.....well, you can't really describe it. Gabriel is confused if he should really hand her to the elders, but he loves her.

The villain in this story is portrayed as a snake. I have alway hated snakes and i always will.Taylor describes the snake; it's skin and blood are 'inky-black' and it's eyes are 'blood-red'. Even though, it's a story David makes it feel real.

The only draw back in this book was that sometimes i think important descriptions are missing. However, i would still recommend this to people who love paranormal romance.

I want to read the next book but too bad i've got too much books in my TBR pile. It's too bad.

    My rating:
Pleas, sir, can i have some more?

There was something lacking from my type of view.
