Review: The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg

The Catastrophic History of You and Me
by Jess Rothenberg
Pages: 35
Publisher:  Penguin Young Readers Group
Pub Date: February 21st 2012

Synopsis:

Dying of a broken heart is just the beginning.

If I'd known right then that this was the kid who would grow up to break my heart beyond repair, maybe i would've stayed upstairs on the phone with Tess.
Maybe I would've gone to bed early. Maybe i would've begged my parents to take me with them-even though those doctor dinners are pretty much the most boring thing ever.
But i didn't know. Couldn't now. So instead I shrugged and said something really genius like 'um, whatever.' and proceeded to fall
totally, madly, crazy in love . . .

Review:

UPDATE!
Getting carried i forgot to add one thing i didn't like in this book was that Brie got carried away with her revenge! And i felt really sorry for Ryan.

It's final. I have ' totally, madly ' fallen in love with The Catastrophic History of You and Me!

When she hears those four words ' I don't love you ' Brie heart splits in two (literally!) Brie is dead. She can't believe that her heart was split in two with a clean cut in the middle. Now she's falling and doesn't know where she is. Until she meets Patrick in Little Slice of Heaven. Brie knows that somewhere she has seen him before but can't place it in her head. Patrick notes down all the phases she's going to go through: Denial, anger, bargaining, sadness and acceptance. Denial - Brie can't believe she's dead, but still thinks that she needs to get revenge for a broken heart. Anger - Brie wants revenge. Bargaining - Brie can do anything for revenge. Sadness - Did she really want revenge? Acceptance - maybe, dying of a broken heart is the only chance of repairing a broken heart.

The Catastrophic History of You and Me is what i call a master piece. I have so many things why you need to read this book! Therefore, this is why i'm writing 5 reasons (which is not enough reasons to say why it's and amazing book!) why you need to read this!
  1. The Catastrophic History of You and Me has a mind blowing plot that gives you every drama that you could have in a life. When Brie was alive she had a lot of things on her plate but when she dies she knows now that everything that was on her plate was not enough of what she knows know.
  2. Oh, my. Ooooohhhhh. My, my, my. The romance in this book in this book is catastrophic! Ryan, Bries boyfriend that broke her heart is in hell of a trouble and she can't forget him. Patrick is a cute but annoying and cocky. But there is something in there.
  3. Jess Rothenberg writing skills are outstanding! One moment you're hooked on as if your life depends on it and the next you're crying and laughing at the same time. I know right?
  4. The emotions that the reader feels reading this will make you cry. In record timing i was already crying when i was at the 10th page! Can you believe it?
  5. You will not forget this in your whole life! I am pretty sure that The Catastrophic History of You and Me will stay in your head for the rest of your life even though you may not like it.
These 5 reasons are not even enough to explain why you need to read The Catastrophic History of You and Me but i keep on finding myself saying thsese reasons over and over again on why this book is perfect. If you haven't read The Catastrophic History of You and Me you need to read it ASAP! If you've got it on your shelf then read it! You will find yourself utterly in love with it! Trust me!

My rating:

Get your hands on this ASAP!

Review: Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Amy and Roger's Epic Detour
by Morgan Matson
Pages: 343
Publsher: Simon and Schuster
Pub Date: May 4th 2010

Synopsis:

When you're on a road trip, life is all about detours...

Amy Curry's year sucks. And it's not getting any better, her mother has decided to move, so somehow Amy has to get their car from California to the East Coast. There's just one problem: scince her father's death Amy hasn't been able to get behind the wheel of a car. Enter Roger, the son of a family friend, who turns out to be funny, nice ... And unexpectedly cute.
But Roger's plans involve a more "scenic" route than just drving from A to B, so suddenly Amy finds herself on the road trip of alife time. And, as she grows closer to Roger, Amy starts to realise that sometimes you have to get lost to find your way home...

Review:

I started reading this book because the summer weather that UK had, which is very, very rare. And i've got to say Amy and Roger's Epic detour was an epic summer read. You know i think i know what i want to do in summer and when i go to America. Go on a road trip like this one.

For some reason i found out to be more closer to Amy than any character i have ever read. Amy's character started as a depressed girl but then started to change, gradually, to a strong character. Roger, on the other hand, is a different mater. Why didn't he just give up his ex-girlfriend (Hadley) and go out with Amy? I mean she's perfect for you! The relationship between Amy and Roger was really great, even though, it went really, really slow. In the end i think i wanted to cry like a baby. This, THIS is what you call a youg adult contemporary read!

One of my favourite person i really liked was Leonard. He lives his life for games but what i found really cute and nice was that he changed this: Quickly! You must save Princess Jenna! (Jenna is a girl he likes) to: Quickly! You must save Princess Amy! from a game he sticks to every minute of his life. I know right? It just got stuck in my head. Another thing i loved was the bits and bobs of the Detour in pictures.

Amy and Roger's Epic Detour has a lot of emotional moments but it still had some humorous moments.

“Roger, he has a chain saw," I hissed. "I am not going to die in Kentucky!”

My God! I think i fell off my but by reading this part. It was that funny! Then we later find out that the guy with the chain saw was Hadley's brother.

The final judgement is that everyone should give this a go even if it's not your type of book.

Morgan is a great author. I'm looking forward to read Second Chance Summer and more of Morgan Matson works!

   My rating:

Get your hands on this ASAP!
(Finally got a 5 star rating! Wahooo!!!)

Review: Linger by Maggie Stiefvater

Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #2)
by Maggie Stiefvater
Pages: 416
Publisher: Scholastic
Pub date: July 20th 2010

Synopsis:
Grace and Sam must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping dangerous secrets. For Sam, it means grappling with his werewolf past ...and figuring out a way to survive the future.

But just when they manage to find happiness, Grace finds herself changing in ways she could never have expected...

Review:

I've read this a while ago but don't really know how to write this review now. Anyway, here it goes.

Sam and Grace are finally together. But when new problems arise they don't know what to do. Beck's gone and never will turn back to a human again and he has left new wolves for Sam to look after. One of the new wolves, Cole, is weird. He picked to be a wolf. He likes to be not human but when he meets Isabelle he doesn't know if he wants to be a wolf anymore. Grace is sick with a high fever and she knows what's coming. Sam is finally free but there are still bits and bobs to sort out. With everything is going bad like this Sam and Grace are caught together in her room. Sam doesn't know what to do. Grace doesn't know what to do. Cole doesn't know what to do. Isabelle doesn't know what to do. But it's there somewhere in the back of their heads that they do know what they need to do.

You know when the book is so slow paced that you're flicking through it every 5 second? Yep. That's what you do when you read Linger. Maggie doesn't leave you disappointment after Shiver. With everything going good there always has to be problems.

The new characters in this book are interesting and i also love the new POVs of Cole and Isabelle. Right now, for some reason, i am favouring Cole and Isabelle over Grace and Sam. I can't wait to see what happens between Cole and Isabelle in Forever.

And the million dollar (I can't say pounds. Dollars sound cooler.) Question is: When will she turn into a wolf? Linger kept on teasing you with every page on Grace becoming a wolf. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I highly recommend Linger. I can't wait to read Forever. I hope it doesn't disappoint me.

Side not: I found the website for this series and it's pretty col. Click HERE to check it out.

About the author:

All of Maggie Stiefvater's life decisions have been based around her inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you're a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which she's tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists and artists. She's made her living as one or the other since she was 22. She now lives an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia with her charmingly straight-laced husband, two kids, two neurotic dogs, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

Review: Bunheads by Sophie Flack

Bunheads by Sophie Flack
Pages: 294
Publisher: Atom
Published: March 1st 2012

Summary:

How do you chose between your first love and your first solo?

As a dancer with the Manhattan Ballet Company, nineteen-year- old Hannah Ward is living her childhood dream. And while she might not be a prima ballet yet, she's moving up the ranks and surely if she works hard enough she can make it happen.
But devoting her whole life to ballet leaves very little time for everything else: friends, family, school have all fallen by the wayside. Hannah doesn't mind until a chance encounter brings Jacob into her life . . .

Review:

How to describe and make this book sound like i want it to i don't know. I have been trying to have great ways to review this book every minute. Even when i was half way of this book i was thinking how i could do the review for this book, but here it goes.

Firstly, i would like to say this is a first for me to read a performing art kind of book. I have never read a book like this.

Bunheads is a hooking book. Every time, i read it i keep on reading more and more and then more. I just can't get enough it. Sophie's writing is beautiful, but simple. When you read this you don't want to leave the book, but, neither do you want to finish it.  How Sophie describes ballet is like you are a ballet person. She shows the backstage world of being a ballet-not on stage with pretty tutus, make up and delicate dancing, which looks effortless. Sophie shows how being a ballet is not all about being in a tutu and looking beautiful. It mean a lot of hard work and sweat. No eating much calories and always on a diet-which i would die of! No time for yourself or anyone else you love.

One of the things that really surprised me in the ballet world was that your breasts have to be small or it's bye bye to you.

Every character in this story is like a person that actually exists outside of this book and living with you right now. Hannah has few friends in the Manhattan Ballet Company, which are: Zoe, Bea, Daisy and Leni and a few more. Zoe is a girl who jumps from one boy to another in minutes, but she takes her ballet career seriously. Bea is kind and is helpful and Daisy is sixteen-younger than any of the girls in the Manhattan Ballet Company. They all sound real to me.

Meeting Jacob was quick, just into a few chapters you meet him and he sounds like a genuine nice guy. Jacob and Hannah are a great couple. The only drawback is that Hannah is a ballet and doesn't have time for anything else. However, Hannah also has another boy in her life; Matt. He's gorgeous, kind and has all the money you can wish for.

The plot of this book is a ordinary life of a ballet person. I love how structured the plot of the romance and Hannah's career into the plot. Not much about romance, but a lot about ballet and that's how it is supposed to be, Hannah's ballet life over shadowing her first love. The book finishes with a great decision of Hanna's for the rest of her life.

To summarise, people you need to smash your piggy bank and get this book immediately!

Review: Exile (Mercy #2) by Rebecca Lim

Exile (Mercy #2)
By Rebecca Lim
Pages: 292
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Published: May 1st 2011

Summary:

An angel in exile, Mercy is doomed to return repeatedly to Earth, taking on a new human form each time she does. Now she "wakes" as unhappy teen Lela, a girl caring for a dying mother but never herself.

As her shattered memory begins to return, Mercy remembers Ryan, the boy she fell in love in another life, and Luc, the angel haunting her dreams.

Will Mercy risk Lela's life t be reunited with her hearts desire?

Review:

I didn't know how much I missed Mercy until I started to read Exile. I got hooked on by the first sentence in this book. Rebecca's writing is so...beautiful? Precious? Extravaganza? Maybe, all of them! When I finished Reading Exile I was left in shock. Literally! I was just staring at the book as if I had just read that wrong.

Mercy can't remember her old life as Carmen Zappacosta and that means she can't remember Ryan! Nooo! The relationship between Mercy and Ryan are pretty close. However, in this book there isn't much about Mercy and Ryan together. Another relationship in the book is Mercy and Luc's and to be exact I hate Luc. I knew that he was the bad guy from the start.

Every character that Rebecca portrays is like meeting the person yourselves. It's like you're the one who's meeting them, not Mercy.

So, finally, Mercy finds some one that is like her-on Earth. The person she meets asks Mercy why she was send down to Earth and her task is and this keeps me reading on. And then the lady asks what rank are you? Curiouser and curiouser. Don't you think so? Finally, we are getting some inside stuff of who Mercy is and her lost life!

You have got to read the Mercy series! It's one of my favourite series! I'm sure you'll love it too!

    Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles #1)
    By Marissa Meyer
    Pages: 390
    Publisher: Puffin
    Published: January 3rd 2012

    Summary:

    A forbidden romance.
    A deadly plague.
Earth's fate hinges on one girl...

Cinder, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desired of an evil queen--and a dangerous temptation.

Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future.

This is not the fairytale you remember.
But it's one you won't forget.

    Review:
    *Luna means the moon.

Hell yeah, this is not the normal fairytale i remember but hell yeah this is one i will remember for my whole life.

W-O-W. Superb. Excellent. Priceless. Mindblowingjawdropping and a lot more. There's more from where that came from. I've wrote all of these words to describe Cinder but it's not enough. Even a thousand words can't describe Cinder.

After you have read this book you'll just be speechless. Trust me on this one. When i finished reading this book, by the way did i tell you i read this book in a day. Yep. That's right fellow readers you heard it right. One day. One day. One day! When i started this book i could NOT put it down. I did NOT go to sleep; i did NOT eat until i finished it; i did NOT even go to the toilet! And it all went to a priceless, once-in-a-lifetime read. Satisfaction. Satisfaction is sweet!

Marissa is an amazing author. I have become an official fan of Marissa. I love how she unraveled the plot. Cinder, the savor and the only hope for the future mankind. Emperor Kai, rebels between duty and freedom. Queen Levena, the Queen to the Lunars and the destroyer to the Earthens and last not but the least. The plague; Letumosis. Which scientists has no answer and are still looking for a cause and cure.

The book starts with Cinder in her mechanic shop and then 'pop' for some reason Prince Kai is there. Wow. *shock*, my jaw drops to the floor. Oh, wow the prince is here! I mean, why wouldn't the heir to the crown just walk about and say hi to his citizens where there is a chance that he might catch the deadly plague? Nope, a normal prince, heir to the throne wouldn't do that! And with this i was sucked into the fairy tale but not fairy tale that Marissa has made. Prince Kai wants Cinder to fix an android that he prizes-people, keep a eye on that android because it's one of the most important things in the plot. And that's where their relationship starts for Kai and Cinder. Next, you find out that Cinder is immune to the plague. *Breathe in, breathe out* another shock that will make your heart skip some beats, Then, when the Emperor has died Prince Kai becomes the Emperor. Oh, but wait. What is this i read?! Queen Levana has landed on Earth and has gave Emperor Kai a flask of the antidote for the plague.

From that Cinder has to save the world from Queen Lavena and the deadly plague which has killed a millions of innocent lives and the story unravels by itself...

But, believe me when i say this there are still more surprises in the book than here that i have written. It will make your heart stop. For sure...

    ~characters~

Cinder- I love Cinder's character. I mean come on who wouldn't love a half human, half cyborg in New Beijing, plus on top of that the best mechanic in New Beijing. Cinder lives with her stepmother, Adri and her two stepsisters, Pearl and Peony; Pearl is a spoilt brat and Peony is the nicest out of Adri and Pearl.

Prince Kai or should i say Emperor Kai- Kai is the man that Cinder likes. Prince Kai is the heir to the crown and is fond of Cinder than anyone. But man you need to make a move on Cinder 'cause you ain't gonna start a relationship just like that, boy.

Queen Levana- Boy, does she give me the creeps. She's the queen of the Lunar which is the moon. She wants to marry Kai fo the money and wants to rule over the Earthens.

The only draw back was the romance in the book. I mean come on there was only one kiss through out the whole book and it was only because Cinder wanted to save Earth from that with--Lavena--and it was only in front of million of people in the royal people! If there was more romance it could have made the book go up to another level. However, i still think this book is AWESOME!!!

Therefore, in my opinion i highly recommend this book-Cinder-the first installment in the Lunar Chronicles to every YA reader. Cinder has made me hooked me throughout the whole book by its own unique way of re-telling a fairytale and how it is out of the normal thinking box.

Hell yeah, this is not the normal fairytale i remember but hell yeah this is one i will remember for my whole life.

Drawn ever deeper into their wold, she finds herself fascinated by-and torn between-two best friends and quickly realizes that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

    Review:

Clockwork angel is like The Mortal Instruments. Forbidden love, action and (of course) Shaddowhunters.

The story starts with a girl called Tessa. She used to live with her aunt in America. But her aunt dies of a sickness. Now that she has arrived in London she hopes to meet her brother (Nat/Nathaniel.) But rather than meeting her brother she meets  the  Dark Sisters who are members of the Pandemonium club. They make her change. Not change as in change into clothes but change as in change into a person. That's her power. she can change into a person, but only if she has something of the person. It can be anything. Their clothes, their jewelery or even a strand of the person's hair. Even though it hurts she has to do it or her brother will be hurt.
The she meets William or better known as Will and the group of Shadowhunters. James or better known as Jem, Carlotte, Henry, Jessamine. She meets Will when the Dark Sisters tell her that she is to be married to the Magister. When she escapes from the Dark sister's hands  there are still more problems. She has to find her brother; The Silent brothers doesn't know who she is; The Institute needs to find the Magister; They also need to know who are controlling the clock figures.

My first thought on this book was that i wouldn't want to be a huge fan of this prequel. This is, because it's the same as The Mortal Instruments. For example, Tessa and  Clarissa don't know what exactly they are and the book has the same problem with the boys. Forbidden love. *Sigh* This time its two boys, eh? This me i like Will. Jem is too...too...normal. However, i do feel sorry for him. But, secretly i can' help myself but be drawn into it. I can't believe most of the that Classandra has wrote. Church is that old! And the epilogue just doesn't make sense. How can Will go to Magnus for help!

This first book in the series was page turning and satisfying. For now. I can't wait to read the next book (Clockwork Prince)!! =D

    Cover talk:

for some reason these days i have been looking at the book covers before reading the book. I guess the cover of a book can tell what it's about. I'm guessing that Will is on the front cover. I love the clokwork angel.

Review: Stealing Phoenix by Joss Stirling

    Stealing Phoenix by Joss Stirling
    Pages: 264
    Publisher: O U P, Oxford
    Published: August 2011

    Summary:

Catch a thief and lose your heart.

    ' This is about getting you out . . . I'm stealing you '

Phoenix belongs to the community-a gang of thieves with paranormal powers.
Yves Benedict-an American student visiting London-is her mark. But Yves turns out to be more than just a target. He is her destiny. Her soulmate. The community owns phoenix's past and it was her future too.

Can Phoenix save the boy she loves . . . and herself?

    My Summary:

Phoenix just needs to get the priceless gadgets in that bag. If she fails she'll get punished by The Seer. And just when its going great, it goes all wrong. when she does get the gadgets it blows up. She has to tell The Seer. It's just a mistake and it's only her first, in her whole life. Its not a problem, right? Well, there's only one way to find out . . .

    Review:

Stealing Phoenix is all about finding your soulmate. The whole series is about the Benedict boys finding their soulmates. There are seven of them. Yep, you heard me right. SEVEN boys! And they are all Beautiful, gorgeous and heavenly made! This one is particularly about Yves.

I absolutely HAD to read this book. The first time i read Joss Stirling's debut book (Finding sky) it was AWESOME!!! And this book was great! From the start i was already hooked with the book, because i knew everything.

Except this time i didn't really like the book. I was actually disappointed. I was looking for a better story from Joss. I thought it was going to be like Finding Sky. On the other hand, i still think its because i like Finding Sky more than Stealing Phoenix.

But this book was still great. It's one of my best 2011 reads.

    Cover talk:

Oh, my god! I have to talk about the cover in this review. I don't how many second, minuets or hours i just stood there and looked at the cover of the book. And i'm not even lying. I was just fascinated by the book's cover. I was like a child seeing magic right in front of my eyes.

Review: The Scorpio races by Maggie Stiefvater

The scorpio races by Maggie Stiefvater.
    Pages: 482
    Publisher: Scholastic
    Published: October 2011

    Sumary:

Every year, the Scorpio Races are run on the beaches of Skarmouth.
Every year, the sea washes blood from the sand. To race the savage water horses can mean death, but the danger is irresistible.

When Puck enters the races to save her family, she is drwan to the mysterious Sean, the only person on the island capable of taming the beasts

Even if they stay together, can they stay alive?

A breathtaking ride that will make your heart race.

    My summary:

    Puck:
When Puck's brother decides to leave her and her brother, to get away from Skarmouth, she has to get a way to get him to change his mind. So, she decides to join the Scorpio Races. It's a foolish idea, even Puck herself knows that. But, she has to wn, if she doesn't her family and her will have no where to stay.

    Sean:
Sean just wants one thing. Corr. But, sometimes it isn't always easy to get things. He has to win this years Scorpio race. It wil be easy. He can tame the monsterous sea horses and he has already won the Scorpio Races for times in a row.

However, this time it will be difficult. When Puck and Sean meet they can't stay away from each other. Never the less, they still have a goal. Win the Scorpio race.

Will Puck get her money and get her brother back?

Will Sean get his one desire?

Who will win the Scorpio race . . .

    Review:

I don't know any thing about horses, but i certinly know about water horses!

This wasn't really my kind of book but sometimes you just have to go with the unknown.
The Scorpio Races is about two people based on the scorpio Race that is always run every year. The contestances race on water horses. From the outside they are a piece of art, but when you come closer they reveal temselves. They are beasts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, except for the first few chapters. It started out all boring but then it became more interesting. Thank god i hanged on to it!

Review: Ultraviolet by R. J. Anderson.

    Author: R. J. Anderson
    Publisher: Orchard Books
    Date published: June 2011
    Pages: 410

    Summary:
    Everything you believe is wrong.

Once upon a time there was a girl who was special.
    This is not her story.
Unless you count the part where I killed her.

Sixteen-year-old Alison has been sectioned in a mental institute for teens, having murdered the most perfect and popular girl at school. But the case is a mystery: no body has been found, and Alison's condition is proving difficult to diagnose. Alison herself can't explain what happened: one minute she was fighting with Tori -- the next she disintegrated. Into nothing. But that's impossible. Right?

Now, let me tell you my story. I thought this book was going to be disgusting, because A) i thought the murder was a old man, B) i thought it was going to be boring and C) i thought the author was boring. And i was going to be like: yeah this book is bad and blah, blah, blah. But, now i can't because now that i have read it i want to kill myself. This is because, A) the murderer isn't a old guy but a girl that has synthesis. B) It's not boring! And C) It's by R. J. Anderson!
sigh, i have been soooo stupid! It's by R. J. Anderson. The Author who wrote Rebel a.k.a Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter. My favourite faire books. Anybody who doesn't like it must be crazy!

    My summary:
Alison is not a normal girl. She can taste words, she can see things that people can't see and she can hear what people can't hear. She wakes up not in her bed but mental institute for teens. She can't remember how she got here, where she is, what's going on and why is she in a mental institute? When Alison wakes up she is moved to another institute for teens. She tries to impress Dr Minta so she can go home. However when the mysterious new staff comes along she can't help but just stare at him. He's got violet eyes and his name (Faraday) is full of violet and tastes like chocolate. However when Alison tells how she killed Tori Faraday believes her. Faraday trusts her. But, Faraday is holding secrets as well. Will he tell Alison? Or, will he keep it a secret . . .

    Review:
I loved this book! It was a perfect read. I also love it because i love books where someone has a sickness. I think i love those kind of books because you can see, feel and hear what they can. The characters in this book was all meant to be there. Everyone had a place in the book. I also love Kirk's character. I would love him as a friend, even though he does crazy things sometimes.
